The ARMAIGNAC test for illiterate individuals allows for the testing of angular visual acuity through direct reading at a distance of 5 meters.

This type of test involves retinal resolving power and relies on shape recognition.

It uses a trident or Raskin's E (a type of standardized E) as the optotype (the figure or character used to measure visual acuity), whose orientation changes on the panel and whose size varies on each line.

The patient must determine the position of the optotype.
